July 6, 2026 l Norway produced one of the biggest upsets of the FIFA World Cup by defeating Brazil 2-1 in the Round of 16, securing a historic place in the quarter-finals.

After a tense first half, Brazil looked to be in control but failed to capitalize on several chances, including a missed penalty. Norway remained disciplined and continued to threaten on the counterattack.

Erling Haaland emerged as the hero for Norway, scoring two late goals to turn the match around and silence the Brazilian supporters. His clinical finishing and powerful presence in the box proved decisive as Norway completed a stunning comeback.

Brazil pulled one goal back through Neymar from the penalty spot in stoppage time, but it was too late to prevent elimination. Despite the late goal, Brazil could not find an equalizer before the final whistle.

The victory marks one of the greatest achievements in Norwegian football history, with the team advancing to the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals for the first time. Norway will now face the winner of the Mexico vs. England Round of 16 match.

For Brazil, the defeat ends another World Cup campaign in disappointment, despite entering the tournament as one of the favorites. Norway, meanwhile, continue their remarkable journey and will carry strong momentum into the next stage of the competition.
